MONTE SOLE is a choreographic work originally born in the homonymous locality in Bologna, tragically known for the Nazi-Fascist massacre at the end of the Second World War.

The work, commissioned by the PerAspera 2018 Festival, found itself having to deal with the power of those places that evoke those dramatic events forever, and to deal even with the consequent and radical paralysis in thinking to stage anything.

The only thing possible seemed to me to make something appear without language, that is without a willingness to respond, asking if the paths of the epiphany, of the apparition in itself, are still possible, asking if it is possible to dilate a silence, create a gap in the the grip of a tight space, to make five young people dance.

Yet it was not enough, it took a distance, true, physical, geographical: a distance made of air. So I chose the opposite hill, so as to achieve at least that minimum breathing space so that something else could happen: a place that looks at another place. A silent place childhood friend of the other place wounded to death.

A tractor driven by a farmer runs in a circle on a cultivated hillside, then veers and disappears beyond. Five young people without any garment, a girl and four boys, appear from different directions, making an appointment in the cultivated area. They dance in silence, and then they too disappear beyond the hill, lined up one behind the other.
